Why texture makes you feel something (even If you don’t realize it)
Color catches your eye first. But texture is what makes you stay.
Texture is the reason you lean in a little closer, the reason your fingers itch to touch the surface. It’s where a piece starts to feel alive.
Working with leather makes texture a huge part of my process. The material already holds so much personality—soft areas, rough marks, natural patterns. Instead of covering them, I build around them. I sculpt, layer, carve, paint… or sometimes I simply let the leather speak for itself.
Here’s something most people don’t know:
Texture changes with the light.
A piece can feel calm in the morning and bold in the evening. Shadows deepen. Colors shift. Details appear that weren’t visible before. That’s the magic of texture—it makes the artwork move even when it’s standing still.
Collectors often tell me that’s what they love most.
Texture makes the piece feel real—not printed, not flat, not mass-produced. It adds weight and emotion. It creates presence.
And maybe that’s why texture matters in life too:
It’s the layers, the scars, the unexpected details that make something (or someone) unforgettable.
